Adventuring in the heart of beautiful Rio De Janeiro.
An essential guide for those looking for adventure.
RIO
There’s an energy about this place, and that energy is on full display walking along the Copacabana Promenade. The promenade was a fitting introduction to RIO. The people here are untethered. It’s no secret that RIO’s beaches are some of the best in the world. The 2,200 hours of sun in an average year make it a desirable destination to work on that tan. As you stroll along, a symphony of sounds will fill the air. The beat of samba music intertwines with the laughter of beachgoers and the distant roar of the ocean. Beautiful people are everywhere. Tanning, running on the path, eating, dancing, exercising, and playing sports. It’s the liveliest beach I have been to, by far, and just the appetizer for what was about to become an incredible adventure in Rio de Janeiro.
Of course, after the appetizer comes the main course, and thankfully, Rio’s food scene is top-notch. Most will come for the churrascarias, where local meats are cooked churrasco style, which is basically Portuguese BBQ. The Portuguese essentially “discovered” and colonized Brazil in the 1500’s, but that’s as far as we’ll take the history lesson for now. The churrascarias are good, but RIO is not a “one-trick-pony.” You’ll have no problem discovering quality eats scattered throughout RIO’s unique cityscape.

You won’t run out of places to explore in Rio. Beyond visiting Rio’s beautiful beaches, Christ The Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Escadaria Selarón, I highly recommend Samba dancing. If you’re a novice like me and don’t want to totally embarrass yourself, take a lesson. They have experience packages where you can take a class from a Samba pro and then tour RIO’s Samba hot spots as a group for a night of dancing and Caiparinhas. Both knocked my socks off! 10/10. If you’re up for something more tranquil, get out to see Rio’s stunning botanic gardens. I’m not a garden guy, but the only word that properly describes my botanic garden experience is simply “enchanting.” If you’re into sports, you have to catch a football (soccer) match at Maracana Stadium or take a jiu-jitsu class to learn a few self-defense techniques. And, if hiking is your thing, Rio’s has plenty of banger hikes. Of course, I had to do the highest one in Tijuca National Park, Pico de Tijuca, (only 1022 meters / 3352 feet) but there is an abundance of trails with incredible views closeby. Rio’s cityscape hits you in the face with a burst of uniqueness and history so damn rich you’ll want to dive in headfirst. Take a look at some of RIO’s hottest experiences below.
